Basic Rules for Playing Draw Poker

Poker is a game of luck and bluffing. Played with a standard deck of 52 cards, there are different versions of the game. Jokers are not usually used. The cards are ranked from high to low as Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and Ace. The Ace can be played either high or low as needed. When it is used as a kicker, it is ranked high. Let's review Draw Poker.

Before any cards are dealt, two players make bet, blind wager or ante. All players take a turn at placing this bet. Each player is dealt five cards face down. The player then picks up their cards (not letting others see them) and decides if what they have is worth betting more money on and continuing to play. If the answer is yes, a bet is made, called, which means you put in the pot the amount that has already been bet. If your cards are not what you want to bet on, place your cards face down and pass them to the dealer, and you fold.

When everyone has bet, called or folded, the first round ends and now each player chooses which cards to keep in their hand. The cards you want to exchange, take out of your hand and place them face down to the dealer. The dealer will give you that many new cards, and another bet is made. If you got the cards you wanted, bet or call. If you didn't get the cards, you can call and bluff your way to win the pot. If a bet is made and no one calls, that player wins automatically without having to show his cards.

What it comes down to, is the player with the highest ranking hand wins. Hands are ranked from high to low including a Straight Flush, Four of a Kind, Full House, Flush, Straight, Three of a Kind, Two Pair, Pair, and High Card.
