The Basics of Roulette

The idea of Roulette is said to have began sometime during the 1720s in England. The modern table as we know it today started around the 1800s. The idea has spread worldwide since, and different types of tables are played throughout.

The game is played on an elongated table with the wheel at one end and the betting spaces on the other. People bet on which number the ball will fall on when the wheel is spun.

The American and the French wheel are the two wheels used in casino and betting facilities and they differ in terms of numbers on the wheel. The American wheel began with 31 numbers and now has 38 slots. 36 of those are numbers 1 through 36 with a 0 and a 00 slot. French tables are played with only 36 numbers and one 0 slot. This changes the odds drastically as the American table creates an odds percentage that makes it a very difficult table to play. Most high stakes casinos and betting facilities include the French table because players like a winning chance.

Betting starts before each spin and people bet according to what number they think the ball will land on. There are two main types of bets which include inside and outside bets. Within these categories, there are several different types of actual bets. These include even and odd bets, choosing an actual number to bet on, choosing a column, or choosing a group, to name a few.

This game is said to be a “pure luck” game. There are no systems or gimmicks that can predict with any kind of accuracy where the ball may land. Other than an unbalanced table or a bored dealer, it's best to choose a lucky number and hope for the best.
