Texas Hold’em can be a fun but complex poker game. There are many strategies and different theories on how to play the game. The first thing is to understand the basics of play. There are different forms of the game. Limit Hold’em has a limit on betting, and No Limit has none. The most popular is No Limit where you can bet up to your total stack of chips. All games have certain things in common. All players are dealt two hole cards with a round of betting. Then there are three community cards dealt with another round of betting. Then one more community card is dealt and another round of betting. Then the final community card is dealt and the final round of betting. The best five card hand wins.

The strategies are as varied as the number of players. Most good players agree the best way to play is to play the players and not the cards. Position at the table is critical to the way you should play. The earlier your position, the tighter your play should be. The later your position, the more information you can gain from your opponents. You need to remember your opponents can’t see your cards until the showdown. Lots of hands are won before the showdown. There are times when you can get your opponent to fold a better hand by representing your hand being stronger than it is. You need to pay close attention to your opponents when doing this so as not to be caught with your bluff and lose a large amount of chips.
